Deepcut and Frimley Lock

Just 1.5 miles, a nice short walk on firm ground. Start on Deepcut Bridge Road at GU16 6RE. This is ideal for those needing some fresh air with little time for something longer. Take the track past the gate next to  the sign for the Pirbright Military Heritage Trail. Options are to stick to the roadway or, after the pond, enter the woodland on your right and follow the path as far as you can along the ridge. In spring the woodland path starts with the delights of fresh beech leaves before being dominated by holly and oak. In autumn the oranges and browns of the beech leaves offer a different seasonal pleasure. Keep going and on reaching the dry dock and Frimley Lock Cottage and Lock, the canal gives the chance to see kingfisher or grey wagtails. Turning right onto the canal towpath it's now a straight walk back to Deepcut bridge, up the steps and turn right back to the roadside parking.

Deepcut, the village, is known from the Basingstoke canal cutting which is 70 metres deep and 1000 metres long.

If you want more explore the towpath, you know the way back!
